Avuncular DNA testing also known as aunt or uncle DNA testing allows a sibling of the alleged father to participate in a DNA test. An avuncular DNA test will verify if a biological relationship exists between the alleged aunts or uncles and the target niece or nephew.
This type of testing is possible because we all inherit genetic material from our biological parents who, along with their siblings, have inherited their genetic material from their parents. Our genetic material will help determine our biological relationship with our aunts and uncles.
Including the biological mother is always suggested in relationship testing. Adding the biological mother helps prevent results from being inconclusive. If the biological mother is not available, the test can still be performed. This type of testing is only suggested if the paternal grandparents are not available including the alleged father.
